| BURTON, JOHN G., "CAPTAIN" "2ND COMMANDER", (Buried: Plot 5, Evergreen Cemetery, Orange, Texas.), Born: unknown. Died: 05th Day of February, 1912. Enlisted in the service of the Confederate States of America in August, 1861, and served "Honorably" as a "Private" in Company "H", 16th Regiment of Louisiana, "St. Helena Rebels", C.S.A. He was at his time of enlistment a resident of St. Helena Parish, Louisiana. He was "Honorably" discharged from said Confederate service in April, 1865, by surrender of the Confederate Army and cessation of hostilities at Appromatox, in April, 1865. At which time He held the rank of "Captain" and "2nd Commander", C.S.A. (Obtained from "Southern Cross of Honor" application…his writing). Received a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas. Pension # 03201. Served as County Judge in Orange County, Texas from: January, 1885 to December, 1896. |
