| J.R. Ferguson of Sulphur Springs, Texas was born July 11, 1837. He enlisted in Company E, 18th Texas Infantry and was elected 2nd Sergeant. In 1863 he was promoted to Captain. He fought in the Battles of Richmond, Mansfield and Pleasant Hill , as well as in the Battle of Jenkin's Ferry, Arkansas. John R. Ferguson died on March 4, 1914 and is buried in Hopkins County, Texas. He is gone but not forgotten.
